Alvin Van Kley, son of Case and Lillian (Van Iperen) Van Kley was born on March 16, 1917 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. He lived his youth and attended a country school in rural Sibley, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Wilma Meyer of Sheldon, Ia., on November 3, 1953 in Sheldon. They lived in rural Sibley near Cloverdale, Ia., where they farmed. Alvin retired in 1982. He will be remembered as a good farmer and a good friend to anyone in need. He enjoyed the challenge of fixing anything that didn't work. Alvin also enjoyed caring for his cats and giving his grandchildren tractor rides. He received a lot of pleasure watching his land through the various seasons. Alvin was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sibley He was also a member of the Cloverdale park board for 10 years. He passed away on Friday November 26, 1993 at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Ia., at the age of 76 years, eight months and 10 days.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Wilma; his son and daughter-in-law Curt and Peg Van Kley of Sibley; his daughters and sons-in-law: Karen and Patrick Flaherty of Bettendorf, Laura and Larry Oldenkamp of Ashton, Barb Van Kley of Sibley and Dianne and Jerry Kass of Sibley; 15 grandchildren; three brothers: Bert Van Kley of Allendorf, Cornie Van Kley of Sanborn, Willis Van Kley of Sanborn; three sisters: Marie Bonsma of Allendorf, Mrs. Hans (Stella) Schiernbeck of Sibley, Mrs. John (Hilda) Roelfs of Ashton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jennie Heemstra, brothers Arie Van Kley and Steven Van Kley.
