Mrs. Verschoor was born in Noord Brabant, The Netherlands on May 11, 1857, where she also spent her girlhood days and married Peter Verschoor in 1880. Seven of their 12 children were born in Holland, 3 sons passing away in infancy in the old country.

In 1887, Mr. Verschoor came to America to seek employment and a year later sent for his wife and 4 children. They located in Alton where they lived 1 year before coming to Hospers where they operated a meat market, and continued with this business until 1917 when their son Roman took over the business. While in America 6 more children came to bless this union. On April 28, 1924 Mr. Verschoor passed away, after which Mrs. Verschoor continued to reside in Hospers until late years when she visited with her children.
