Funeral services were held in Rock Valley Tuesday for Gerald Van Grootheest, 14, of Rock Valley, who was killed Thursday night in an automobile accident southwest of Rock Rapids. Services were at 12:30 p.m. at the Vander Ploeg Funeral home and at 2 o'clock at the Netherlands Reformed church. Rev. J. Van Zwelen officiated. Burial was in the Valley View cemetery.
Gerald was born September 2, 1946, at Doon. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Van Grootheest, who survive him with three brothers, Gerrit and Ted of Rock Valley and Albert at home, two sisters, Betty and Mary Jane, at home and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Van Beek, of Sioux Center.
Louis Illnsch, 27, of Rock Rapids, driver of the second car, was also killed in the accident. Mr. Van Grootheest was driving the family car and received head injuries. He was treated at the Rock Rapids hospital. The daughters, Betty and Mary Jane, were less seriously injured, but were treated at the hospital.
