One of the saddest deaths which it has been our duty to record occurred on Monday morning last at 9:30 o'clock, when the soul of Mrs. H. A. Scholten took its flight. Mrs. Scholten had been bedfast at her home two and one half miles northeast of town for about four weeks from the
effects, first of grip and later of appendicitis,
which ended her life despite the loving care of husband, relatives and friends.
Deceased was the youngest child of Mr, aud Mrs. S.(Seine) J. Meuning who live four miles northeast of town and was born in the province of Gelderland, Holland, on July 22, 1868 being
not quite thirty-two years of age at death. At the age of three years she came to America with her parents and grew to young womanhood on the farm home in this county, where she was married eleven years ago last Wednesday her funeral day to H.(Herman Anthony) A. Scholten. To them were born four children, three girls and a boy, the oldest now ten years and the youngest a boy of three. Besides husbaud and children, a father and
mother, four brothers aud a sister and many friends are left to mourn her loss. The brother's are John of Leota, Minnesota, Ralph who lives on the home farm, Rev. Simon J. of Holland, Miunenota, aud Albert Menniug of Alton. The sister is Mrs. C. Van Rooyen of Newkirk. All were present at the obsequies. The deceased was a consistent aud earnest member of the Reformed church from which the funeral was preached on
Wednesday at 1 :30 by Rev. Lepeltak,,
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were A. A. Kuyper and wife of Boyden, Walter and
John Van Rooyen and their wives from Newkirk, Hubert Van Rooyen of Hospers and J. Scholten aud wife of Boyden.
(She was the daughter of Seine J. Menning b. May 1827 and wife Albertje. Her husband Herman A. Scholten b. 1862 Zutphen Neth. died Nov 12, 1946, he married Anne Menning Feb 28, 1889. As reported in his obituary they had four children Anne Mrs. Henry Langstraat of Sheldon, Abbie Mrs. Evert Geurink of Orange City, Grace Mrs. August De Boer and Simon Scholten both of Alton. Herman married Nellie Den Hartog Jul 9, 1903 and they had seven children.)
