Funeral services and burial of Miss Lucy Ashley, 81, took place in Sioux Falls Friday, March 28. Miss Ashley was born in Hawarden July 19, 1893, Her father, James Alton Ashley; Represented Western Town Lot Co. of Dubuque, an affiliate of the Northwestern railroad, when the town of Hawarden was platted, adjacent to Calliope. He was among the early mayors of Hawarden. Her mother was an early-day piano teacher and First Congregational church organist and choir director. Two brothers survive, Warren H. at San Diego, Calif., and James D., Former Argus-Leader managing editor at Sioux Falls.
