MEMORIAL SERVICES.
Ireton: Memorial Services were held at the Glendale Presbyterian Church, Glendale, Calif, for Vernon Landhuis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Landhuis, and a grandson of John Landhuis of Boyden, on October 22, 1944. He entered the Army Air Corps on October 28, 1942, graduating as Second Lt. from the Bombardier School at San Angelo, Texas on January 15, 1944. He then went to March Field for overseas training, and on July 2, 1944, left San Francisco for the South Pacific. Word of his death was received ctober 9; he was killed in action over Noemfoor, New Guinea, September 24, 1944. A letter from General Douglas Mac Arthur to the bereaved family states “His service to his country was characterized by his devotion to his duty, and by(*?) his death we have lost a .............. comrade-in-arms”. Lt. Landhuis is survived by(*?) his wife and parents. He was their(*?) only child, a nephew of Cornelius Landhuis, formely .......... of(*?) Ireton(*?).
