DEWITT, FEENSTRA, SCHUT

Sioux Center News, February 24, 1949

Mrs. Anna Schutt De Witt passed away at the home of her daughter Sandrene, in Grand Haven, Michigan on February 17 at 7 p.m.

The deceased was born Anna Feenstra, February 1, 1863 in Waartena, Friesland, The Netherlands. Orphaned at the age of nine, she and her twin sister Susan, were sent to The Neerbosch Orphanage. Here she learned to know well the former Mr. & Mrs. Peter Van Donselaar, Mr. Charles Vander Meulen, Mr. Sneltjes, all of whom later came to Sioux Center. In 1900 Anna Feenstra came to America; in 1902 she married Mr. Sanderus Schut of Sioux Center, Iowa. Mr. Schut died in May, 1921. In 1926 Anna Schutt married Mr. George De Witt and moved to Holland, Michigan. Mr. De Witt died in May, 1940. Anna Schutt De Witt spent the last five years of her life at the home of her daughter Sandrene Ann Schutt, teacher in the High School at Grand Haven, Michigan. Besides the daughter she is survived by six step-children: Frank Schutt, Hobart, Ind., Frank was an eleven year old boy at home when Anna Feenstra married Sanderus Schutt. Mr. P. S. Schutt, Sioux Center, IA; Mrs. Adam Punt, Sioux Center, Iowa; Mr. San Schut, Clinton, Wisc. Mr. Henry De Wit, Holland, Michigan, and Mr. Augustine De Witt, Holland, Michigan and by many grandchildren.

At the time of her death Anna Schutt De Witt was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church at Holland, Michigan and a member of the Ladies Adult Bible Class and Mission Aid.

A memorial service was held at the Dykstra Funeral Parlors in Holland, Michigan on Sunday at 3:30. Dr. HenryTer Keurst, Trinity Reformed Church, Holland and Rev. H. Grant Mason, Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids, Michigan officiated. Mr. Gilbert Van Wynen sang Psalm 68:1 and the Doxology in Dutch.

Funeral services were held at the home of P. S. Schut on February 22 at 1:00 p.m., and at 1:30 at the First Reformed Church where the deceased had been a member and Sunday School Teacher for many years. Rev. Peter A. De Jong officiated. Mr. John Wesselink sang "Jesus Lover of my Soul", and "My Jesus As Thou Wilt". Her body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Sioux Center Cemetery but her soul is at rest in her heavenly home.
