PIONEER SIOUX COUNTY MAN GONE - A. J. PENNINGS OF ORANGE CITY CAME TO SIOUX COUNTY IN SEVENTIES
Mr. A. J. Pennings passed away last Friday after having been in failing health for some time. Deceased was born at Alten [*Aalten], Gelderland, Netherlands, came to America at the age of 18 years. After living one year at Greenleafton, Minn., he came to Sioux county. On Nov. 28, 1877 he was married to Miss Johanna Te Paske. To this union 4 children were born: Rev. Gt. J. Pennings, Arabia; Henry Penning, Mrs. H. I. Muilenburg and Will Pennings, Orange City. Mrs. Pennings died on March 15, 1890. Some time later Mr. Pennings was married to Mrs. Stuurop, a widow with 4 daughters.
To this union five children were born: John Pennings, Mrs. Jacob Bonnecroy; Mrs. Wm. Rozeboom, Rev. Bert Pennings, Ghent, N. Y., and Marion Pennings, theol. student at Holland, Mich. On the 28th of April. 1909 he was called upon to mourn the loss of his second wife. June 13, 1911 he again married, this time to Mrs. Bergman of Holland, Mich. Soon after this last marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Pennings came to town and bought the home still occupied by the family. He has served the First Ref. church as elder for 18 years. Funeral services were held last Monday from the First Ref. church, Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating.
