From the Sioux County Herald Wednesday April 15, 1908 Orange City.
TOWN AND COUNTY.
Last Thursday G. Te Grotenhuis who lives near Sioux Center was the victim of a sad accident while sawing down trees. One of trees which was already almost severed threatened to fall across some telephone wires. It was decided that a rope must be fastened to the tree to pull it in the other direction. Mr. Te Grotenhuis boldly climbed into the tree for this purpose. When he had reached a considerable height the tree began to give way and fell. To escape he jumped but it was too late, the tree fell with all its weight upon him and he was badly crushed. A few hours afterwards he died. The deceased leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss.
(This is possibly Gerrit TeGrotenhuis and wife Mary Roos listed in the First Reformed church book of Sioux Center. Two children were listed John William born 26 Dec 1902 and Alice Johanna b. 19 Jun 1904.)
