Father of R. J. Herman Passed Away at Sioux City
E. A. Herman, 80 years old, one of the most prominent German citizens of Sioux City, died at an early hour Friday morning, The death occurred at his home, 309 Sioux street, Mr. Herman had been sick for the past year and his death did not come as a surprise, .

He had been a resident of Sioux City for the past 23 years, He served four years as a sanitary policeman and was for eight years steward of the detention hospital He served through the civil war as sergeant in the First New Jersey regiment, And was a member of Gen.Hancock post No 22..G.A.R.

He is survived by his widow and five children: Mrs. George Beaum, of Brooklyn, N, Y,;Mrs. J. F. Bristow, of Sioux City; C, A. Herman, a farmer in Plymouth county; R. J. Herman, Hawarden; and C. W. Herman, Sioux City.—Sioux City Journal
