Herman Hentrich, the twelve year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hentrich of Chatsworth was drowned in the waters of the Big Sioux Sunday afternoon, about eighty rods below the old Otis mill site, a mile west of Chatsworth. With a number of his young friends he had gone to the river to bathe and the boys had remained in the water for more than an hour. None of the boys were able to swim and all were trying to learn, They had all left the water except the Hentrich lad and Louie Schumacher, when the former stepped off into a hole where it was ten feet deep. He struggled bravely in the water but the boys were powerless to save him. They immediately gave the alarm and in a few minutes a large crowd had gathered. The body was found about forty rods below where the drowning occurred, but not until the searchers had worked for an hour and a half.

Besides his father and mother he leaves one brother and a large host of friends, young and old to mourn his lost, first. took his first communion last spring.

The funeral was held from the Catholic church in this city this morning, Rev. Fr. Bradley conducting the services. It was largely attended by the people of Chatsworth and vicinity. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery in this city.

Relatives from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Paradee and Mrs. Pete Henley of Humboldt, S. D., Henry and Frank Beeberger of Brady, Iowa, and G. F. Beberger of Carroll, Iowa.
