Hugh C.-Henderson, who resided 9 ½ miles northwest of Hawarden, passed away at 6 o'clock last Thursday morning at the Sioux Valley hospital in Sioux Falls following an operation. He submitted to an operation for the removal of his gall bladder Dec. 29th and his condition was critical at the time. At times he seemed to be improving and hopes were held for his recovery but each time he suffered a relapse and death claimed him after a two months' illness.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in this city at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon with Rev. Robert. H. Forrester, the pastor, in charge. Burial was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Hugh Clifford Henderson was born near Hawarden Aug. 1, 1902, and passed away in Sioux Falls Feb. 2, 1933, at the age of 30 years, 6 months and 1 day. When he was quite young the family moved to Burlington, Colo., where they resided for five years when they returned to Hawarden. After attending school -in Hawarden he went to Davenport, Iowa, where he took a three-year course in Chiropractic. Later he practiced his profession in Yankton, Irene and Viborg, S. D. In 1925 he went to California, clerking in stores in Los Angeles, Bishop and Lone Pine.

At Lone Pine he was manager of the Safe Way store. He was united in marriage with Ina Imus at Bishop, Calif., Feb. 12, 1929: To this union were born three children, Cleo Rae, Mary Lou and Elvie Hiram. In May, 1932, he and his family moved from California to Nogal AZ, where they resided until September when they came to this vicinity and made their home with his mother. Mr. Henderson's father passed away last Sept. 9th and about two weeks later Hugh came and planned to help his mother look after the farm work this coming season.

He united with the Methodist church when the family lived at Madison, S. D., and later he transferred his membership to the Hawarden Methodist church. He is survived by his wife and three small children, his mother, Mrs. Elvie Henderson, and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Hagen of Alcester and Miss Iva Henderson at home.

Mr. Henderson was a true and trustworthy friend and upright in his dealings with his fellow men. His death comes as a severe blow to his wife and children and to his mother and other members of his family. Sincere sympathy is extended to them in their great sorrow.

(His father was Elvie Henderson and mother was Mary E. Baker.)
