From the Alton Democrat of Dec 16, 1899 p.24
Peter Traufler one of Granville's first settlers died Tuesday morning of a complication of heart and kidney troubles. Mr. Traufler had not been
feeling well for about three weeks prior to his death and on Thanksgiving day was induced to remain in bed. From that time he grew steadily worse.
Mr. Traufler was born in Luxemburg, Germany, in 1866, leaving his native country when yet a boy for the new world, where he learned the blacksmith trade. He was united in marriage to Kate Earnester in Minnesota and then moved to Remsen, Iowa, where he engaged in the blacksmithing business. Becoming dissatisfied he removed to Granville, where he made many friends and succeeded in saving up a nice little fortune by honest dealings and hard work at his trade.
Losing his wife about a year and a half ago he married for the second time some three months ago, the lady being Mrs, Gertrude Lanbenthal of Northridgeville, Ohio. Only the devoted wife survives him. The funeral was held Thursday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic church and was largely attended.
(See the obit of his wife Mrs. Peter Traufler 1861-1898 Maiden name Ernster or Earnester. From the Sioux County death records Peter Traufler age 43 year 9 mo. died Dec. 12, 1899.)
