Sioux Center News, March 14, 1957

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church at Hull at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, for Gerrit De Leeuw, Sr., 79, long time resident of Hull vicinity and father of Mrs. Gerald Vande Garde of Sioux Center, who passed away at the Sioux Center Community hospital Sunday evening following a lengthy confinement.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Nic Rozeboom and burial was made at Hull. Van Etten Funeral Home of Orange City was in charge of arrangements.

A brief service was held at the family home in Hull at 1 p.m., immediately preceding the service at the church.

Mr. DeLeeuw was born April 17, 1877 in Holland where he attended school and grew to young manhood. In 1902, at the age of 25 he immigrated to the United States. The following year he returned to Holland to claim his bride. Immediately following their marriage, April 9, 1903 they returned to the U.S.

Mr. & Mrs. De Leeuw observed their 50th wedding anniversary at Hull, April 9, 1953.

Survivors besides his wife, of Hull, include three sons, Gerrit & Henry of Hull and Ben of Bellflower, CA; and six daughters, Anna (Mrs. Ben Gritters) of Bellflower; Hattie (Mrs. Ray Hallmark) of Stockton, CA; Alice (Mrs. Mitchell Luinstra) or Eureka, CA; Mrs. Bertha Moss of Hull; Goldie (Mrs. Chester De Boer) of Hull and Margaret (Mrs. Gerald Vande Garde) of Sioux Center; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
