Dr. Leah Vande Berg, 55, of Sacramento, California, died Monday, December 13, 2004,at a hospital in
Sacramento. Memorial services were Friday at Carmichael Presbyterian Church, Carmichael, California.
Leah Vande Berg was born October 27, 1949, in Sioux County, the daughter of Maurice and Norma Vande Berg. She was raised in Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa in 1972 with a
bachelor's degree in English literature. She earned her master's in the same subject in 1975 and her doctorate six years later. She taught at various campuses, including the University of Iowa, where she was a graduate teaching assistant, Southern Methodist University, and Northwestern University, where she was an assistant professor. She was currently a professor of communications studies at California State University, Sacramento.
Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Nick Trujillo of Sacramento; her father, Maurice Vande Berg of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Dr. Kevin and Debra Vande Berg of Sioux Falls; and niece Anna Leah and nephew Austin Maurice.
