SIOUX CENTER, la. — Special: Funeral services for John H. Smith, sr., 73, Sioux Center,
retired Rock Valley, Ia., drug store operator and former operator of a Sioux Center bakery
who died Saturday at a hospital here after a brief illness, will be at 1 p. m. Tuesday at the
Vander Ploeg funeral home here and at 1:30 p. m. at the Central Reformed Church.
Rev. Marion Klaaren will officiate. Burial will be in the Sioux Center community cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born March 10, 1890, at Alton, Ia. He married Winnie De Vries on September 30, 1910. She died February 5, 1936, at Sioux Center. He married Mrs. Pearl Vande Brake on August 31, 1936. She died October 31, 1963, at Sioux Center.
Survivors include a son, John H., jr., of Rock Valley; two daughters, Mrs. James L. Smith
of Charleston, IL., and Mrs, Clarence Kooima of Rock Valley; two brothers, Ralph of Sacramento, Cal., and Ben of Arnolds Park, La.; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Roos and Mrs.
Deena Vanden Brink, both of Hospers, Ia., and Mrs. Alice Kokenge of George, Ia., and 10
grandchildren.
