Gertrude Van Sloten, 86, of Hull, died Monday, September 1, at Valley Manor in Rock Valley.

Services were Thursday at First Reformed Church in Hull, with the Rev. Verlyn Boone officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Van Sloten was born on February 27, 1911 in Sioux Center, the daughter of Feite & Winnie (Lockhorst) Pollema. She married Garret Van Sloten on March 10, 1933, in Hull. The couple farmed at Perkins Township until 1942, when they moved to a farm near Hull. In 1975, they retired and moved into Hull. In August 1991, she entered the Valley Manor Division of Hegg Memorial Health Center.

She was a member of First Reformed Church and the Reformed Church Women's Ministries.

Survivors include a daughter, Winifred Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley; three sons and their wives, John M. & Coreen of Rock Valley; Norman & Betti of Alton, and Gary & Barb of Doon; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jennie Brouwer of Rock Valley and Wilma Vink of Hull; and a brother, William "Bill" Pollema of Hull.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Sy, Pete and Sam Pollema; three sisters, Anna Schurman; Winnie Vollink and Alice Steenhoven; a son-in-law, Edwin L. Van Veldhuizen; and a grandson, Randy Dean Van Sloten.

NOTE: Her husband Garrett may have spelled his name Gerrit.
