James Mouw
James Mouw, 91, of Alton died Thursday, February 3, at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home. Funeral service was Saturday, February 5, at 2 p.m. at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment was at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.
Mouw was born November 15, 1913, at Orange City, the son of Henry G. and Annie (Teselink)
Mouw. He was raised at Hull, where he graduated from the public high school. He also attended an electronics institute Kansas City, Missouri. On February 16, 1939, he married Sophia Boer at Rock Valley. They made their home in Hull, where he was the owner of the Hull Hatchery, farmed, and was a co-owner of the H. and M. Motor Company. In 1967, they moved to Alton. In October of 1999, he joined his wife in the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home. She died December 17, 2002, in Sioux Center. He was a member of the Alton Reformed Church and was formerly a member of First Reformed Church in Hull. He served on the consistories of both churches and sang i n the choir in Hull. His favorite pastime, by far, was fishing.
He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, singing, bike riding, and drinking coffee. In earlier years, he played in the Hull Band.
Survivors include his two sons and their wives, Daryl and Carol Mouw of Papillion, Nebraska, and Warren "Bud" and Joyce Mouw of Tulare, California; a daughter and her husband, Judy and Tony Van Helden of Spencer; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Van Veldhuizen of Hull and Eunice Hospers of Story City; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Mouw of Hull.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson; a brother, Gerrit Mouw; and two brothers-in-law,
Everett Van Veldhuizen and Garrett Hospers.
