Robert "Bob" Pekelder Jr., age 58, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012, at his home in rural Sheldon.
Burial in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Robert "Bob" Pekelder Jr. was born on June 9, 1953 in Sheldon, Iowa. He is the son of Robert L. Sr. and Bette (Bosma) Pekelder. He lived his youth on the Pekelder Family Farm south of Sheldon. He attended Sheldon Christian Grade School and Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa, graduating in 1971.
He was united in marriage to Janet Irwin Johann of Sheldon, Iowa on June 12, 1982 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. They lived in rural Sheldon. Bob worked for Sheldon Farm Service where he made many modifications to the attachments for the skid loader. He was an independent contractor working with the railroad. Bob was an owner-operator, over the road, truck driver, driving over a million miles. He also enjoyed farming on the family farm.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served on the council. He volunteered for many years as a Sheldon Fireman.
Bob had his pilot’s license since the late 1980’s. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, Nascar, and watching his grandchildren’s activities.
He will be remembered as a quiet man of few words who loved his family.
Bob passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012 at his home in rural Sheldon.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 29 years: Janet Pekelder of Sheldon, IA; daughter and son-in-law: Julie Kay and David Schmitz of Alta, IA; grandchildren: Kayla Schmitz of Creston, IA, Christopher Schmitz of Cedar Falls, IA, Jared Schmitz at home in Alta, IA, Jordan Schmitz at home in Alta, IA; his parents: Robert Sr. and Bette Pekelder of Sheldon, IA; one brother: Bryan and Bobbi Pekelder of Hospers, IA; 2 sisters: Bonnie and Bryon "Byke" Van Donge of Sioux Center, IA, Mary Beth and Jerry Reed of Sheldon, IA; 2 brothers-in-law: John and Norma Irwin of Early, IA, Jerry and Sharon Irwin of Early, IA.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents-in-law: Berl and Malinda Irwin; sister-in-law: Barbara Iehl.
