Marilyn Faye Gradert was born December 10, 1941 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of Gerrit E. and Esther (De Zeeuw) Vermeer. She was a graduate of the Sioux Center High School. Marilyn married Kenneth Gradert July 10, 1959 in Sioux Center They farmed together in the Ireton, Iowa area. Marilyn was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Center where she was involved with the Women of the ELCA. She enjoyed quilting and donated many hand made quilts to the Ingham-Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp Quilt Auction and to Lutheran World Relief. Marilyn enjoyed her friends at the Sioux Prairie Quilters Guild. She loved her family and especially enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren's activities. Her husband Kenneth died suddenly on August 16, 1993. Marilyn died Monday, September 6, 2004 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden at the age of 62 years.
Her surviving family include three children, Chantelle Beal and her husband Richard of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and their children, Jason and Kendrick, Warren Gradert and his wife Candace of Ireton and their children Rebecca and Nicole, and Brian Gradert and his wife Sharla of Ireton and their children, Kenyon, Kameron and Kolton; her mother, Esther Vermeer of Ireton; two brothers, Everett Vermeer and his wife Candy of Quincy, Washington and Don Vermeer of Ireton; and two sisters, Maxine Richner and her husband Dave of Warden, Washington and Iva Vander Giessen and her husband Larry of Moses Lake, Washington.
Her father, Gerrit and her husband Kenneth preceded her in death.
