Passed Away: March 17, 1999, Sioux City. Iowa
Age: 84 years, 8 day;;
Service: March 20, 1999, Christian Reformed Church, Hospers. Iowa
Interment: West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City, IA. Nancy Bernice was the daughter of Walter and Marie (Noteboom) Harmsen. As a child, her family moved from Lebanon to Chicago, Illinois. where she graduated from the Roseland Christian School. They then moved to Sheldon.
On December 18, 1935, she married Edward J. G. Vander Wilt at Sheldon. They farmed Northwest of Hospers until 1944, when they moved into Hospers.
She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church,where she had been involved in the Golden Hour Circle in earlier years,
Nancy was a thoughtful person, who was known for remembering others with appropriate greeting cards and words of encouragement. She also enjoyed wintertime and her many friends in Texas. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were
"the apple of her eye."
Survivors include her husband. "Ed"; two daughters and their husbands, Lennie M. and Lloyd Beimers of Hospers; and Wanda J. and the Rev. Kenneth Van De Griend of South Holland, Illinois; five grandchildren and their spouses. Lance and Denise Beimers, Lynae and John Wagenaar, Tom and Cheryln Van De Griend, Jeanie and Jim Heethuis, and Cory and Angela Van De Griend: eight great-grandchildren. Larissa and Dalton Beimers, Nasia, Hannah, and Lyvia Wagenaar. Ezra and Ellie Heethuis, and Anna Van De Griend; and a brother and his wife, Peter and Leona Harmsen of Okoboji.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, John and Marian Harmsen.
