Merritt L. Hoogendoorn
Merritt L. Hoogendoorn, 81, of Rock Valley died Saturday, August 16, in the Rock Valley hospital.
Services werw at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, in the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley. The Rev. John Den Hoed officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Hoogendoorn was born January 8, 1905, at Hagerswoude, The
Netherlands. He came to the United States and to Alvord in April 1915. He married Gertrude Van Voorst December 17, 1931, at Sioux Center.
They farmed in the Rock Rapids area until 1968 when they retired and moved to Rock Valley.
Hoogendoorn was a member of The Netherlands Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gilbert of Rock Valley and Jacob of Hills, Minnesota; a daughter, Marg Vis of Beaver Creek, Minnesota; two brothers, Gilbert "Gus" of Holland,
Michigan, and John De Wit of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three sisters, Nellie Berg of Rock Rapids, and Margaret Iwen and Adriana Van Beek, both of Reck Valley; 13 grandchildren
and four greatgrandchildren.
