JAMES HOOGENDOORN
James Hoogendoorn, 77, Rock Valley,died Sunday at a Rock Valley nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley, with the Rev. Joel Beeke officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.
Mr. Hoogendoorn was born June 5, 1900, in the Netherlands and came to the United States when he was 14. He married Hattie VanAbbema June 17, 1926, in Alvord. They farmed in the Alvord and'
Larchwood area until retiring in 1958, when they moved to Rock Valley.
Survivors include his widow; four sons, Gilbert of Sioux Center, Alvin of Larchwood, Marvin of Rock Valley and James of Doon; five daughters, Mrs, William (Henrietta) Vander Waerdt of Hull, Mrs. Tom (Margie Van Tilburg and Mrs. Wilmer (Sylvia) Fluit, both of Rock Rapids, Mrs. Henry (Arlene) Hoefakker of Inwood and Mrs. Leonard (Berniece) Klarenbeek of Alvord; his stepfather, Bastian De Wit of Rock Valley; three brothers, Arie and Merritt, both of Rock Valley, and Gilbert of Hudsonville, Mich; a half-brother, John of Inwood; three half sisters, Mrs. Peter Ber of Rock Rapids and Mrs. William Iwen and
Mrs. Nick Van Beek both of Rock Valley; 38
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
