Mr. Verlyn Groeneweg, age 69, of Sioux Center, formerly of Hull, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, January 13, at 11:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. The Rev. Harlan De Jong will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Verlyn Dale was born on August 30, 1942, in Hull, the son of Walter and Jessmine (Van Sloten) Groeneweg. He was raised in Hull, where he attended the Christian Elementary School. He also attended and was employed at Hope Haven in Rock Valley.

In 1998 he and his mother moved to the Franken Manor in Sioux Center. In 2002 he transferred to the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Hull, as well as Friendship Bible Study.

Verlyn enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was very interested in cars and pickups, knowing the make and year of every model. He liked "checking them out" in area car lots.

He was a caregiver to his mother, and they traveled together frequently.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, William and Lorraine Groeneweg, of Orange City; two sisters-in-law, Carol Groeneweg and Joyce Groeneweg, both of Sioux Center; and many nephews and nieces.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace and Ronald Groeneweg.
