From the Alton Democrat, February 15, 1902.:

Frank Schemmer the youngest son of H. Schemmer died on last Saturday [February 8] of appendicitis. The funeral was held on Monday. The family have the sincerest sympathy from all.

From the Sioux County Herald, February 12, 1902:

Frank Schemmer, a young son of ex-Mayor Schemmer, died at his home in this city Saturday afternoon after eight days sickness from appendicitis; an operation was performed Friday afternoon by Dr. Cram of Sheldon, but without success; the funeral was held from St. Mary's church Monday.
