Lucile E. Wilken, 82, of rural Akron, died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 22, 1996, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City. Services were held Monday, Feb. 26 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, with the Rev. Kathleen Kinney officiating. Burial was in St. John Evangelical Cemetery. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, Le Mars was in charge of arrangements.

Lucile Emma Winterfeld was born on the family farm southwest of Craig to Albert and Meta (Schulz) Winterfeld. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. She attended grade school in Craig and graduated from Ireton High School in 1931. She married Arthur Wilken on Nov. 15, 1939. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1989. He died June, 1991.

Mrs. Wilken has been a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of the choir and Ladies Aid.

Survivors include, her son and daughter-in-law. Merle A. and Jeane Wilken of Akron; three grandchildren, Lisa and her husband, John Erdmann of Fairmont, Minn., Scott and his wife. Julia Wilken of rural Ireton and Amy Wilken of Akron; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Erdmann and Jessica Wilken; a sister, Esther Oloff of Craig; and a brother, Alvin of Ord, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
