Katie Hoogendoorn, age 16, of Rock Valley, was pronounced dead Friday, September 22, 2000 at the Luverne Community Hospital, Luverne, MN due to a two-vehicle accident Friday, 4 miles south of Luverne on Hiway #75. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Netherlands Reformed Church at Rock Valley. Family graveside service at Valley View Cemetery will precede Memorial Service. Rev. John den Hoed will be officiating. Vitistation was held Monday until 5:00 at Porter Funeral Home and then with the family present 6:30 to 9:30 at the Netherlands Reformed Christian School.

Katie Hoogendoorn was born February 20, 1984 at Rock Valley, daughter of Perry and Tami (Vande Hoef) Hoogendoorn. Katie was currently a junior at the Netherlands Reformed Christian School of Rock Valley.

Surviving relatives include her parents Perry and Tami Hoogendoorn; brother, Brady Hoogendoorn; three sisters, Tori, Betty, and Tracy Hoogendoorn all of Rock Valley; grandparents, Gilbert and Angeline Hoogendoorn, John and Kathy Vande Hoef, all of Rock Valley; great-grandmothers, Rena Vande Hoef and Henrietta DeBruin, both of Rock Valley.

Three Area Youths Killed Saturday [i.e., Friday] Night

A two-vehicle collision four miles south of Luverne, MN on U.S. Highway 75 Saturday night claimed the life of three area teenagers.

Katie Hoogendoorn and Cindy Post of Rock Valley and Nathan Van Voorst were killed as a result of a collision between the vehicle that Hoogendoorn was driving and a vehicle driven by Kim Kremin of Luverne. According to reports by the Minnesota State Patrol, the vehicle driven by Kremin cross[ed] the center line and collided with the vehicle that Hoogendoorn, Post, Van Voorst and Aaron Van Voorst were traveling in.

At 11:39 p.m., the two vehicles collided at Mile Marker 6 on Highway 75, resulting in both Kremin, 33, and Hoogendoorn, 16, being pronounced dead at the scene. Post and Nathan Van Voorst were also pronounced dead, while Aaron Van Voorst was transported to Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
