Some few weeks ago Mr. and Mrs. VerDoorn, an aged couple living in town (Middleburg), took very sick. Last Wednesday Mrs. VerVoorn died at the ripe old age of seventy-eight years and the funeral service were held at the Middleburg church. Her husband withstood the chock of her death but a short time and was laid to rest in the cemetery jsut south of town. The heartfelt sympathy of the communtiy goes out to the relatives.
(This account is a bit confusing and I think the editor had his info wrong, as this has to be Anneke VerDoorn Mrs. Dirk Verdoorn who is stated to have died Dec 31, 1899 in the cemetery index and other accounts. However, she must have died Dec 30, 1898. Then it indicates her husband died a short time later, however Dirk Verdoorn died May 1, 1904 both are buried in the Capel Tsp Cemtery at Middleburg. These are the only burials in that time period at Middleburg.
Anneke Van Wijk was born 17 Jan 1823 Wijk Brabants Neth. (which comes out to about 78yrs of age at death) she was married 18 Apr 1859 at Wijk, Neth. daughter of Wilhelmus Antonie Van Helden and Elizabeth Van Wijk. She married Dirk Verdoorn b. 22 Dec 1826 and died 1 May 1904 Capel Tsp. Sioux County. Children were - Joseph 1860-1936, Benjamin 1862-1943, Maria 1864-1933 and Wilhelmus 1867-1934.
