Former Alton Resident Dies

A former Alton resident died last week at her home in Washington. Mrs. Grace Gleysteen, 91, passed away suddenly of heart problems at her home in Bremerton, Washington. Mrs. Gleysteen was the wife of Dr. D. J. Gleysteen, a former Alton physician.

Dr. D. J. Gleysteen and Grace were prominent residents of Alton for many years. Both were involved in many civic affairs of Alton. Dr. Gleysteen was a native of Alton, and started his practice there in 1908. Dr. Gleysteen's father practiced medicine before him. Grace Gleysteen was the former Grace Green. She moved to Alton from Columbus, Ohio, to teach elementary grades in Alton, when she met and later married Dr. Gleysteen.

Dr. Gleysteen and Grace had two children, sons Leland and Rodney. Leland died a few years ago, and Rodney recently retired from his medical practice. Dr. D. J. Gleysteen passed away a few years after World War II, and shortly after that Grace moved to Bremerton, Washington.
