John Vanden Berg, the kindly and courtly old gentleman who resided so many years in North Alton, but lately of Orange City, died Thursday after a lingering illness. He was a good man, and leaves a widow and three sons to mourn his loss.
( Sioux County Cemetery Index lists John Vanden Berg b. 19 Apr 1820 died 8 Dec 1898 Orange City, wife Louisa aks Logina/Lorjiena.. etc. died 11 Jan 1902 at 71 years. She was Lorjiena Ketel. They had several children in the Netherlands, including on in 9 Jan 1848 who was ligitmated by parents remarriage date of 30 Sep 1863. They were also married 28 May 1852 at Apeldoorn Gelderland Jan Van den Berg was 32 years, listed no parents and no place of birth. Logina was 22 born at Apeldoorn to Hendrik Ketel and Hendrika Landaal. The children found born to them were Lodewijk 9 Jan 1848, Jan Frederik 15 Feb 1853 Apeldoorn, Hendrik 1 Jan 1858 Apeldoorn, Jan Gerard 28 May 1860 Apeldoorn and Willem Gerrit 4 Aug 1863. There were only three sons who survived the father, two were John Frederik and John Gerard. In the obit of Jan Frederik it lists he has or had a brother Henry in Milaukee. The death notice in the Dutch Volksvrien for John Vanden Berg mentions 5 children born to them and three surviving. )
