Peter P. Vis, 63 of Madrid. Iowa formerly of Boyden, IA., died Monday, October 29, 2007 at home at The Cedars Assisted Living Center of Madrid, Iowa
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 pm at the First Reformed Church of Boyden with Rev Mart Daffer officiating. Interment will follow at Sheridan Township Cemetery of Boyden.
Peter P. Vis, Jr. was born on January 21 1924 to Peter and Johanna (Vanden Berg) Vis in Hull, Iowa where he was raised and received his education through the 8th grade at Hull Christian School. Peter entered the United States Army on April 30 1943 and received his honorable discharge on March 23, 1946. He served in the Central European Theater as a Medical Corpsman during World War II.
He was married to his faithful bride Martha Hogan of Sioux Center on August 6, 1946. Peter and Martha spent most of their married life in Boyden Iowa where they were co-propretors of Peter’s Gateway Store from 1 959-1 979. Peter was a member of the First Reformed Church of Boyden and served the church as both a Deacon and an Elder.
Peter is survived by his wife Martha and their two sons, Reverend Tony Vis and his wife Deanna of Des Moines, Iowa, and Reverend Marlin Vis and his wife, Marcella of Jerusalem Israel along with his five grandchildren, Leah Koopman and her husband, Jory of Zeeland, Michigan, Abbie Ruisch and her husband Rob of Waukee, Iowa, Joshua Vis and his wife Kim of Durham, North Carolina, Aaron Vis and his wife Renee of Hudsonville, Michigan and Andrew Vis and his wife Shauna of Johnston Iowa . Peter was also proud of his eight great-grandchildren and the ninth on the way. He is also survived by his
sister, Marie De Ruiter of Rock Valley: sister and brother-in-law, Arnetta and Mel Van Peursem of Hull and two brothers and sister-in-law, Clayton and Mae Vis of Hull and Harvey and Corayn \/is of Marshalltown, Iowa
Peter was preceded in death by his parents ; Peter and Johanna Vis, his three brothers; Anthony, Gerald and Christian Vis and two brothers-in-law; Gilbert De Ruiter and Alan Ten Haken.
