NELL VIS
Miss Nell Vis, age 77, of Hull, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, July 19, at 10:30am, at the Hope
Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Todd Zuidema will officiate.
Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.
Nell, who was actually named Nellie Clarietta, was born on November 25, 1927, in Hull, the daughter of William and Hattie (Vermeer) Vis. She lived at Hull all her life.
As an adult, she first served as a housekeeper for area families. Then she was
employed as a nurses’ aid at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull for 24
years, retiring in 1990.
In July of 2001, Miss Vis became a resident of Pleasant Acres.
She was a member of the Hope Christian Reformed Church and also served as a foster grandparent at Hope Haven in Rock Valley. She enjoyed embroidering, especially table cloths, which she gave to her nieces.
Survivors include four sisters and two brothers, Gertrude, and her husband
Everett Franken, of Sioux Center; Kathryn Van Kley, of Rock Valley: Walter
Vis, and his wife, Edith, of Grandville, Michigan; John Vis, and his wife,
Bertha, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Cornelia Flikkema, of Manhattan,
Montana; and Margaret, and her husband, Jake Teunessen, of Rock Valley;
a sister-in-law, Gertrude Vis, of Rock Valley; and a brother-in-law, Cornie
Zevenbergen, of Baldwin, Wisconsin.
She is also survived by many nephews and nieces, who were very important to her. She appreciated the care several of them gave to her over the years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, the Rev. Peter Vis, and his wife, Esther; Ed Vis; and Gerrit Vis; two sisters, Elizabeth Zevenbergen; and Henrietta, and her husband the Rev. S. T. Cammenga; and three brothers-in-law, Gary Van Kley, Phil Flikkema, and Harold Van Otterloo.
