Mr. Jacob Verrips passed away at the Sioux Center Community Hospital Saturday evening after being there only a few hours. He had reached the age of 79 years, 9 months and 6 days. Mr. Verrips came to America as a young boy with his parents and settled in Sioux Center where he was in business as a blacksmith until the time he retired and moved to California over fifteen years ago. Mr. Verrips was married to Jennie De Zeeuw in 1907 at Middleburg and on April 14, 1948, she preceded him in death. He is further survived by three children, Gradus of Sioux Center, Paul of Beliflower, Calif., and Pearl, Mrs. Verne Sjogren, of Lahabra, Calif. One daughter, Nellie, preceded him in death on January 24, 1924. Mr. Verrips is survived by one brother, Peter, of Sioux Center and six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Sioux Center News, August 4, 1960

Funeral services were held at the Central Reformed church here at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday for Jacob Verrips, 79, former long time Sioux Center resident and father of Gradus Verrips of this city, who died at the Sioux Center Community hospital a few hours after being admitted.

Mr. Verrips had made his home at Whittier, Calif., the past 15 years.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Marion Klaaren and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

A short service was held at the church chapel preceding the service at the church.

Mr. Verrips was born in The Netherlands, October 24, 1880, and moved with his parents to Sioux Center when a boy. He was married to Jennie DeZeeuw at Middleburg in 1907, after taking up the blacksmith trade in Sioux Center and the couple lived in this community until moving to California after World War II. Mrs. Verrips preceded him in death April 14, 1948.

Surviving him besides son, Gradus, of Sioux Center, are a son, Paul of Bellflower, Calif., a daughter, Pearl, Mrs. Verne Sjogren of Lahabra, Calif., one brother, Peter of Sioux Center, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One daughter, Nellie, preceded him in death January 24, 1924.

Pall bearers were Arie Verrips, Calvin Groen, Paul Den Hartog, Paul DeZeeuw, Jake DeZeeuw, Wesley DeZeeuw.
