Mrs. MARGARET VERSTEEG.
Mrs. Margaret Versteeg, one of the pioneers of Sioux county, nassed away at her home in Boyden, on Monday morning at 2:00 o'clock, after suffering a stroke of paralysis, which made its attack first on Sunday afternoon.
She died at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 5 days. Funeral services for the deceased were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at
the house and at 1:30 at the Reformed
church, with Rev. J. M. Lumkes, officiating. Interment was made in the Boyden cemetery.
Mrs. Versteeg was born in the Netherlands on Christmas day, in the year of 1848. She had been a resident of Sioux county and Boyden for
many years, and was one of the pioneers of this county. Up until Sunday noon, Jan. 29th, she seemed apparently in good health, being in attendance at the morning services at the
Reformed church. It was not until after the noon hour that she complained, and was overtaken by the first stroke of paralysis. She was a
devout member of the Reformed church, and a woman of Christian character. She is survived by three sous and five daughters. They are Herman Versteeg,. of Hull; Nick Versteeg, of Monroe, S. D.; Mrs. Hubert Maris, of Boyden; Mrs. John Grooters, of Boyden; Mrs. Will Grooters, of Sheldon; John Versteeg, of Sheldon; Mrs. Otto Rowenhorst of Marion, S. D., and Mrs. George Tott, of Boyden, besides thirty-six grandchildren
and other relatives.

Margaret was born Grietje Margaretha Verhoef. Parents were Harmen VerHoef 1805 died 1860 Pella IA. and Maaike Klein 1823- . Children were Grietje Margaretha 1848-1922, Govert Verhoef 1850, Jannigje Verhoef 1851, Hannes Verhoef 1853, and Gertruida Verhoef 1954. The Verhoef family arrived Jun 11, 1855 New York. According to this account the Children of Arie and Margaret were Herman 1868, Nicholas 1873, Dena 1874, Maggien 1875, Cornelia 1877, John Arie 1882, Matilda 1884, Adrianna 1897 and Jennie 1897.)
