Obituary carried in the de Volksvriend of Jan 27, 1916.
Translated from Dutch goes something like this -
After prolonged suffering of cancer the Widow K. Versteeg died Sunday at the age of 72 years. Mrs. Versteeg was born in the Netherlands and came to America with her parents at a young age and settled in Pella IA. On March 21, 1866 she was untied in marriage to Mrs. K. (Klaas) Versteeg her late husband who died May 21, 1915 after a happy union of over 49 years. Nearly 32 years ago the family moved to Sioux County and they dedicated themselves to farming, and later got a house in town. She later lived with her daughter Mrs. W. Sterrenburg. Her passing is mourned by eight children: Nick Versteeg, Mrs. S. Tinkelenburg of Edgerton MN, Dick Versteeg, Mrs. W. Sterrenburg, Mrs. P. De Cook, Mrs. G. Van Marel, John and Dingeman Versteeg all of here. She also leaves a broeder, Mr. Jno. Den Hartog of Alton, and two sisters Mr. Horman and Mrs. Van Heukelom of Pella, also two half-brothers, Dick and Jake De Haan in Colorado. The funeral was from the First Reformed church with Rev. Engelsman officiating.
(From www.genlias.nl her parents were Dirk Den Hartog b. 26 Jan 1818 age 25 born at Boeicop Zuid Holland, married 1 Feb 1843 at Leerbroek Zuid Holland to Jannigje Bikker (Bakker?) born 7 FEb 1816 age 26 born at Leerdam, to Wouter Bikker and Neeltje Muilwijk. Neeltje came with her parents in April 1847 on the ship Maasstroom which sailed for Baltimore. In the 1870 census of Richland, Mahaska county IA K. Versteeg was 32, Nellie was 26, Klaas was 3, Jane 2, and Dena 9 months. A children list appeared on ancestry.com includes Nicholas, Jan, Evertdena, John Dirk, Katie, Ida, John, Dingema and Nellie.)
