Duane Vande Brake
August 8, 1925 - November 13, 2011
Mr. Duane Vande Brake, age 86, of Maurice, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011, at his rural farm home.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, November 16, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Ter Beest will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Duane Glenn was born on August 8, 1925, in rural Maurice, the son of George and Agnes (Borgman) Vande Brake. He was raised on the family farm north of Maurice, where he attended a country school a half mile away.

On June 29, 1949, he married Harriet Mae Kleinhesselink in the parsonage of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. They made their home on a farm just a fourth mile north of his home place.

Mr. Vande Brake was a member of the First Reformed Church. He also served as a trustee of West Branch Township and was a member of the National Farmers Organization.

Besides being a farmer, he also set-up machinery and did some trucking. He enjoyed repairing and restoring cars, tractors, and farm machinery.

Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years; three sons, Larry Vande Brake, and his wife, Peggy, of Orange City; Dennis Vande Brake, of Maurice; and Mark Vande Brake, and his wife, Lori, of Orange City; eight grandchildren, Jason Vande Brake, and his wife, Danyelle, of Le Mars; Justin Vande Brake and Jordan Vande Brake, both of Hospers; Jenni Vande Brake, of Arnold’s Park; Matthew Balt, of Mankato, Minnesota; Jason Balt, and his wife, Niki, of Cape Coral, Florida; and Tony Vande Brake and Mariah Vande Brake, both of Orange City; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Vande Brake, of Maurice; and two sisters-in-law, Edna Vande Brake and Harriet Kleinhesselink, both of Orange City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Merle Vande Brake; a sister-in-law, Jennie Vande Brake; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Kleinhesselink and Harold Kleinhesselink, and his wife, Dorothy "Dode".
