DeKoster, Mrs. Dick "Ida" - 1889-1941

Sioux County Capital, April 3, 1941

Ida Bregman, was born in Passaic, NJ, August 23, 1889 and in 1893 she moved with her parents to Hull. On April 13, 1909 she was united in marriage with Dick De Koster and they began their married life as residents of Hull and continued to be among Hull's outstanding citizens until Mrs. De Koster's death. To this union four daughters were born.

For several years Mrs. De Koster cared for her invalid mother, with her husband always at her side giving of his best to comfort the mother until the end came after 5 years of suffering. After her release from this responsibility she was always at the call of any one needing help or comfort.

In 1934 she spent several weeks with her eldest daughter, Jeanette and her sister in Riverside, Calif., and often talked of the wonderful visit with them and during the early summer of 1940 Jeanette came here with her little daughter to visit the mother and grandmother.

During November, 1940, she began suffering severe headaches and entered the local hospital and also the clinic at Rochester, MN, where she underwent an operation but no medical skill could restore her to health, and after 5 months of this suffering she passed away in the local hospital on March 18th.

Mrs. De Koster was a member of the First Ref. church and also a charter member of the Mission Circle of the church. She was also a helping hand for any good cause ways standing in the front to lend a hand.

The funeral was held in the home and in the First Ref. churc at Hull on Friday, March 21, with Rev. Mr. G. H. Douwstra and Rev. Mr. R. A.Jager of the American Ref. church assisting. She leaves her husband, four daughters, Mrs. John (Jeanette) Simmons of Riverside, CA; Mrs. John W. (Esther) Kooiker; Nelva and Adelaide at home; a granddaughter of 3 years, Esther Mae Simmons; a sister, Mrs. Tracey Givens of Riverside, two sons-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The relatives in Riverside, CA. were unable to be at her bedside or attend her funeral.
