As previously annouced, Mrs. Ruth May, familiary know as Granma May, died Jul 10, 1889 after a brief illness at the home of her daughter Mr. J. T. Van Orman. the funeral was largely attended, and long line of carriages followed the remains to their last resting place. Mrs. May, whose maiden name was Ford, was born in New Jersey September 26, 1810. In her 14th years she, with her parents removed to the state of Ohio, where she married John May, Nov. 12, 1831. From thence they went to the state of Indiana where she lost her husband in 1853. Subsequently she moved in Illinois and in 1867 came to Iowa. She was the mother of ten chidlren, three of whom are now living, Mrs. Brower, of Box Elder NE, C. W. May of Smith Center KS, and Mrs. Van Orman of Hawarden, with whom she has made her home for nearly thirty years. She was converted in her 21st years and has ever been a faithful and consistent member of the M. E. church. Grandma May will long be remembered for her good traits of characer, her generous deeds and for her noble qualities. The sun of life has set to rise in golden splendor. The strings of the harp are broken but they will resound again in theat eternal world where pain, care, and suffering can make no discord.
