Joseph Gee died at his home in this place, Monday at 10 o'clock. Mr. Gee has been an invalid for several years but has been confined to his bed about two weeks. He leaves a wife and five children who have the sympathy of the whole community. The services were conducted by Rev. Galt. The town has lost a good citizen. He was a geed christian and a good neighbor.
(The Hawarden Independent of Sep 29, 1898 reported he had cancer and had gone to Chicago for treatment to no avail. The Sioux county Cemetery Index lists J. C. Gee b. 5 Apr 1848 died 26 Sep 1898 buried in Grace Hill Hawarden. A family account on ancestry lists Joseph Christopher Gee b. 5 Apr 1848 Ontario Can. died Sep 1898 Sioux county IA. Wife Maria B. Barker 1854-1943. His parents were Joseph C. Gee 1782 - 1852 and Catherine Kelly 1811-1859. They were married Mar 15, 1871 Kent, Kent, Ontario Can. Children Anna Maria Gee 1875, Orrin James Gee 1877-1965, Walter Benson Gee 1882-1871, Olive Evetta Gee 1886-1982, and Ethel Candec Gee Hoerr 1890-1977.
