Vera Mae (Schilmoeller) Nilles, 84 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Presbyterian Village in Ackley, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.
Vera was born Jan. 26, 1927, at Granville, IA, the daughter of Joe & Agnes (Laddusaw) Schilmoeller. Vera was raised in the Granville area and attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Granville. She then attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, IA. After college she taught country school.
On May 27, 1946 she married Walter Nilles at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. The couple made their home south of Remsen where they farmed until 1987 when they moved into Remsen. She entered the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in 2006. Walter and Vera were married 62 years before his death on Nov. 24, 2008.
Vera was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Christian Women’s guild and 3rd Order of Franciscans. She was a teacher’s aid at St. Mary’s School & also taught CCD at St. Mary’s Church. She worked as a CNA and CMA.
Survivors include; three sons, Larry (Donna) Nilles of Sutherland, IA, LeRoy (Vicki) Nilles of Rapid City, SD, Ken (Barb) Nilles of Sanborn, IA; five daughters, Linda (Duane) Sudtelgte of Ackley, IA, Marge (Tom) Montgomery of Redmond, OR, Mary (Don) McClaren of Evansdale, IA, Malia (Kevin) Mouser of Remsen, IA, Jane (Jeff) Peck of Cedar Falls, IA; one daughter-in-law, Theresa Nilles of Knoxville, IA; 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joan Cronin of Marcus, IA, Helen (Cyril) Theisen, Janice (Dick) Wurth both of Remsen, Dianne (Dennis) Haupert of Soddy Daisy, TN, one sister-in-law, Rita Plendl of Kingsley, IA.
Preceded by: her parents, one son, Tim, one granddaughter, Melissa Mouser, one sister, Eileen & her husband Joe Schueder, one brother, Joe Schilmoeller & his wife Fran, In-laws, Elmer Theisen, Joe Cronin, Loren & Dorothy Zimmer, Vince Plendl, Eddie & Floyd Nilles.
Casket Bearers will be: Richard, Robert & Jacob Sudtelgte, Chris, Daniel, Adam & Chad Nilles, John & Josh Stamer, Don & Joe McClaren, Joseph Mouser, Ben & Nathan Montgomery, Travis Delaney.
