March 22, 1893--- Nov. 17,1982
Mrs. Jennie De Jong, 89, of Ireton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1982 in the nursing wing of the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Jennie was born March 22, 1893, at Vierhouten, Gelderland, The Netherlands, the daughter of Berent De Jager and Roelfje (Nyhof) De Jager. She came to the United States with her parents about 1900. They settled near Maurice. On Feb. 22, 1911, she married Fred De Jong at Ireton. They farmed near Ireton, except for living in Minnesota from 1916 to 1921. In 1946 they retired into town. Mr. De Jong passed away April 24, 1958. In December of 1973, Mrs. De Jong became a resident of the nursing wing of the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Mrs. De Jong was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Ireton and its Ruth Circle.
Survivors include seven children: Ted, of Ireton; Mrs. Art (Rena) De Boer, of Orange City; Bernard, of Artesia, Calif.; Mrs. Clarence (Ann) Mulder, of Ireton; Henry F., of Orange. City; Alfred J. of Ireton; and Mrs. Harold (Esther Mae) Bolkema, of Wyoming, Mich; 39 grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Henry De Jager, of Ogilvie, Minn.; and Rhodus De Jager, of Maurice; and five sisters: Mrs. Pete (Rena) Faber, of Sioux City; Mrs. Henry (Susie) Smits, of Lynden, Wash.; Mrs. Wilbert (Henrietta) Vande Kieft, of Sioux Center; and Mrs. William (Johanna) Vlietstra, Sr., of Orange City.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 20, at the First Christian Reformed Church of Ireton, with the Rev. Bernard Fynaardt officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
Mrs. De Jong was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Rose Mulder; one grandchild, three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Drost, Mrs. Gertie Van Duyn and Mrs. Hattie Schreur.
