The immediate cause of his death was a light attack of pneumonia together with a complication of infirmities incident to one of his years. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Rev. C. H. Young, pastor of the church, preached the funeral sermon. The members of the G.A.R. and the Relief Corps attended the funeral in a body and old comrades acted as pall bearers.

They moved to Clinton County, Iowa in 1858. He enlisted in the Union Army from Clinton County in 1862 and served his country honorably until the close of the war. He was a member of the 26th Iowa Inf., and served under the command of General John A. Logan the greater part of the war. In 1871 he moved his family to Sioux county and located on a homestead near Maurice. They continued to reside there until 1896 when they came to this city to make their home.
