Everhart, Miss Zepha - Abt. 1890-1943

Hawarden Independent, December 21, 1943

Miss Zepha Everhart, who for many years lived in Hawarden, died suddenly at the home of her uncle, Ed Everhart at Menno, SD, Dec. 26, from a heart attack. She had gone to Menno from De Smet, SD, where she taught school, for the holiday vacation, and was stricken with a heart attack while there.

Special memorial services were held for her at the Methodist church at De Smet, Jan. 3. The pastor of the Congregational church assisted the Methodist minister in this service. Her remains were sent to Pine Bluff, Wyo. for burial.

She had taught in the primary department of the De Smet public schools for 17 years. She also taught a Sunday school class in the Methodist church.

Zepha Everhart, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Allen Everhart, was 53 years of age at the time of her death. Her mother died in 1900, after which the father and children came to Hawarden to live. She attended the Hawarden public schools and was graduated from the Hawarden High school in 1909. Later she attended Morningside college and the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. After completing her education, she engaged in the teaching profession, which she followed until her sudden death.

She is survived by four sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Francis Burt and Miss Ethel Everhart of Pine Bluff, Wyo.; Arthur Everhart of Boise, Ida.; Chester Everhart of Wichita, Kan.; Mrs. Chas. Moody of Sidney, Nebr.; Elmer Everhart of Bushell, Neb.; and Mrs. Bertha Harmon who resided in California.

Miss Everhart was a cousin of Mrs. C. J. Miller of Hawarden.
