SHELDON—Mary Vellinga, Sheldon, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
Services were Thursday, at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Mary Vellinga, daughter of, John and Gertie (Dekker) Vos, was born September 18, 1909 in Boyden, where she lived her youth and attended school. She married Donald Van Meeteren on June 15, 1926, in Boyden. They made their home in Sheldon. She was employed at Hollanders Variety Store in Sheldon and later at Mastbergen Jewelry in Sheldon as a sales clerk. Mr. Van Meeteren died May 3, 1966, in Sheldon She married John R. Vellinga on Sept. 15, 1969, in Sheldon. He died April 11, 1999, in Sheldon.
She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon and was a member of the women’s circle and guild.
Survivors include two daughters Dolores and John Kruger of Sheldon, and Darlene and Ervin Verrips of Sheldon; a stepson, Mark and Carmen Vellinga of Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandsons; two step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a daughter in-law, Verdella "Del" Van Meeteren of Sheldon; and three sisters, Gertrude Merley of Sheldon, Irene and Vern Ingalls of Sheldon, and Betty Wassenaar of Sheldon.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Van Meeteren and John R. Vellinga; an infant daughter; two sons, LeRoy ‘Blink" Van Meeteren and his wife, Velma; and Howard Van Meeteren; a brother, Arthur Vos; and two sisters, Lena Jacobs and Eunice Van Oort.
