MINNIE NYLUND

Minnie Amelia Nylund, 86, of Hawarden died Thursday, June 6, 1996, at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at Big Springs Baptist Church, rural Alcester, S.D., with the Rev. Daryl Runion officiating. Burial was in Big Springs Baptist Cemetery. Visitation was at 2 p.m. Friday, June 7 with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Nylund was born June 24, 1909 in Union County, S.D., the daughter of Oscar F. and Anna (Erickson) Erickson. She was baptized April 2, 1922, at Big Springs Baptist Church where she was a lifelong member. She attended Big Springs and Ring rural schools, West Central School of Agriculture, and the University of Minnesota at Morris, where she studied home economics for two years.

On June 28, 1934, she married Robert Nylund at her parents home near Big Springs. The couple farmed near Big Springs until his death Dec. 14, 1959. She moved to her home in Hawarden in 1965 and was employed as a cook at the Mapes Nursing Home and later the Hass Hillcrest Care Center from February 1960 to the fall of 1978. She entered the care center in July 1994.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Aileta and Leland Sawtell of Newcastle, NE., Kathleen and Taylor Flynn of Hawarden and Elaine and Tom Swoyer of Marlin, SD.; a brother, Morris Erickson and his wife, Joyce of Paynesville, MN.; a sister, Margaret Binnebose of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Gene and three brothers, Wallace, Wendell and Walter.
