Wilbert J. Evink, 73, of Sioux Center died unexpectedly Friday, September 28, at a Grand Rapids, Michigan hospital.

Memorial services were at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Bernard J. Haan officiating. Burial was in Eastlawn Cemetery, Sheldon.

Evink, son of Raymond & Eunice (Brouwer) Evink, was born December 23, 1927 in Sheldon. He lived his youth in Sioux and O'Brien counties. He served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged in May 1950. He married Mary Schmidt in Sheldon on June 29, 1950, and they farmed in rural Sibley and Ocheyedan. He began a gasoline transport business in Sibley in 1957. In 1963 he became a semi truck-driver for Montgomery Ward for 24 years while living in Randolph and Delavan, Wisconsin. Upon retirement, he worked for seven seasons as the grounds keeper at Big Foot Country Club in Fontana, Wisconsin.

He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his children and grandchildren and wintering in the southern U.S. for the past 12 years. He had a passion for Christian education and served on the Delavan Christian School Board. He served as a deacon at Sibley Christian Reformed Church and as an elder at Delavan Christian Reformed Church where he was a member. Last April he completed his leadership work on the church board at the Texas Trails RV Park in Pharr, Texas.

Survivors include his wife of Sioux Center; three daughters, Gloria of Sheldon, Kae and husband John Van Engen of Sioux Center, and Pam and husband Jim De Windt of Jenison, Michigan; three grandchildren; two brothers, Tony Evink and Jake Evink of Bellflower, California; six sisters, Angeline Vander Wolde of Spirit Lake, Jeanette Mastbergen of Sanborn, Marie Mastbergen, Johanna and Jake Wagenaar and Henrietta Evink, all of Sheldon, and Eunice & Merle Dagel of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Alice Van Kekerix.

Memorils are being directed to Christian education and Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon.
