Obituary: HAWARDEN, IOWA- Elmer V. Holtkamp, 82, of Hawarden, died Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, with the family present from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Elmer V. Holtkamp was born March 14, 1929 in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Herman and Clara (Johnson) Holtkamp. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Elmer served with the US Army serving oversees for 16 months during the Korean War.
He married Ruth Holtdorf September 6, 1953 in Ireton, Iowa. They made their home on the Holtkamp farm southeast of Hawarden. Due to health reasons Elmer retired from farming in 1976 and he began working as an electrical journeyman for Interstates Electric in Sioux Center until 1982. They moved into Hawarden in 1983 and Elmer began his career in real estate and auctioneering.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Hawarden Kiwanis Club. Elmer enjoyed photography, reading history, and being healthy by exercising, walking, jogging and eating healthy foods.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughter, Terri Fischer and husband Clayton of Platte, South Dakota and their 3 children Kendra Bebensee and husband Ryan, Kayla Lane and husband Jake and Kyle Fischer; and son, Rodd Holtkamp and wife Gwen of Primghar, Iowa, and their 2 children, Rebecca Thim and husband Ryan and their child Georgia and Shelbi Holtkamp.Elmer was preceded in death by his parents.
