Last Tuesday evening at four o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Matt Kellen at her home in East
Orange township, after an illness of three weeks duration. Mrs. Kellen nee Miss Susau Hanson, was born in Luxemberg, Germany, and came to America with her parents at the age of five years. They removed to East Orange township from Jackson county in 1870, and on February 22nd, 1878, she was united in marriage with Mr. Matt Kellen. Nine children were born to them, eight daughters and one son, who together with the sorrowing
husband survive her. Mrs. Kellen was thirty-seven years of age at the time of her. death and was highly esteemed by all her neighbors and friends. She was one of the pioneers of the county and THE DEMOCRAT joins in extending sympathy to the grief stricken family.
The funeral was held from St. Mary's church in this city, Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. Father Brune, interment in St. Mary's cemetery. The following people from a distance, including the entire Granville parish, were present at the
funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Dominick Kellen of Adrian, Minn., Messrs. and Mesdames Will Kellen, Ed,
Kellen, Adam Wilhelm, Frank Hansen, Mrs. Kate Engeldinger, , Ed. Grass, Nic Kilburg, Nic and J. P. Strong of LeMars, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Reith of Remsen, and Henry Remacle of Hospers.
