Stella Hoekstra, age 91, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon.
Memorial Services will be Friday, July 22, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Mr. Doug De Groot officiating.
Graveside Service will be Friday, July 22, at 10:00 A.M. at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Stella Hoekstra was born on February 17, 1920, in Perkins, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ed and Henrietta (Vis) Dykstra. She lived her youth and attended a country school in Perkins.
She was united in marriage to Martin Hoekstra of Hull, Iowa, on December 9, 1948. They farmed near Hull and later moved to rural Sheldon, Iowa, where they farmed. In 1997, they retired and moved to town. Martin passed away on November 23, 2007.
She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Stella loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her life. She also enjoyed visiting and working crossword puzzles.
She passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon.
Those left to cherish her memories are her six children: Philip and Linda Hoekstra of Memphis, TN, Eldon and Joan Hoekstra of Sheldon, IA, Mark and Nadine Hoekstra of Lynden, WA, Helen and Verlyn De Kam of Leota, MN, Arlys and Darwin De Jong of Sioux Falls, SD, Ruth and Ron Newhouse of Kalamazoo, MI; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Dick and Ann Dykstra of Hull, IA, Art and Eldoris Dykstra of Hull, IA, Harold Dykstra and Beverly Olsen of Hull, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Martin; 3 brothers: Herman Dykstra, Pete Dykstra, and one infant brother; 5 sisters: Gertrude Brummel, Jeanette Steinstra, Ena Dykstra, and 2 infant sisters; and one infant grandson.
