Henry Bousema, 56, of Sheldon, died Friday, July 7, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Services were Tuesday, July 11, at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon with the Rev. John Vermeer officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Bousema was born January 9, 1939, at Sanborn, the son of Arend & Hattie (Holtrop) Bousema. He was raised in the Sanborn/Sheldon area. He graduated from Sheldon High School and attended business college in Sioux City, He was employed by Kinney Shoes, managing stores in several midwestern cities.

He married Kathleen Hofman at Sanborn on March 1, 1961. They moved to Sheldon in 1962, where Henry worked at Carl's Footwear. He purchased that business in 1973. He established Mr. B's in 1974 and a couple years later Lady B's, both in Sheldon. The couple were also involved in the Carriage Shoppe and in 1993 began Cornerstone, both in Sheldon. In addition, he had been involved in the establishment of other shoe stores in the area. Many of these businesses were recently sold because of his failing health.

He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory as both an elder and a deacon. He was a member of the boards of directors of Christian School, Northwest Iowa Health Center and the Development Corporation, where he had served as president.

Survivors include his wife, "Kay", three sons, Mark and his wife Elsie of San Marcos, CA, Joel and his wife Amy of Sheldon, and Nathan of Sheldon; six brothers and sisters, William of Sanborn, John of Worthington, MN, Arthur of Aretsia, CA, Greta Bomgaars of Bellflower, CA, Gertrude Littell of Kayesville, Utah, and Bernard of Sheldon; three grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Roy.
